Belfast Wheel - Shankill Women’s Centre
The Shankill Women’s Centre worked with artist Clare Mc Comish in the development of a sculptural low relief ceramic wall piece. The group got together to discuss issues of environment and femininity. There were lots of strong ideas coming through but eventually the group settled for the concept of reproducing the four elements, (Earth, Wind, Fire and Water) in an undulating style based loosely on natural fractal formations. The group worked with the design then produced the pieces in porcelain with texture colour, ceramic stains and some lustre finishes. The work was installed in the main corridor of the building and is enjoyed by every person who uses the Centre. ‘The artist was very accommodating of our ideas and designs and great fun. All participants were enthusiastic about the project, its themes and excited to be involved in the future city wide project… Very enjoyable with a long term piece of art left as a legacy of the project.’ Lesley Anne Kinnon, Funding Development Officer Shankill Women’s Centre |
