Belfast Wheel 2009
This year’s programme reached a wide range of groups across the city and two of them worked on cross-community project.
Artists encouraged participants to explore different technique, styles and themes to produce art works for public spaces in their centres. The groups worked with glass/cutting/fusing, mosaic design and creation. Some groups developed new skills with stencil design, colour mixing and mural/street art for their public spaces. They also explored numerous themes ‘realising potential’, including friendship, locality, community, responsibility of outcome and connecting with culturally different backgrounds.
Over all the projects helped with confidence levels, growth and development. Participants learned new skills in design, composition, drawing, construction and delivery of a public art work. All the groups commented that the projects were enjoyable and would want to develop further. The cross community project in particular developed some genuine new friendships and they would like to expand through other arts projects in the future.
