Belfast Wheel

New Belfast's Community Sculpture project

Thumbnail example

Belfast Wheel is a community sculpture project connecting public art pieces in areas across the city to a central piece within the city. Groups work for two phases that are completed back to back.

In the first phase participants work within their individual communities to produce a piece of sculpture that has personal resonance to that area. They then move on to work on a large joint piece of work which is completed alongside other groups, producing a one final piece. Participants have the choice of learning a wide range of skills including ceramics, plaster-casting, metalwork, plasma cut art, metal-casting, mosaic, design, carpentry and wood carving and turning.

Since 2000 “Belfast Wheel” has delivered a series of innovative community sculpture workshops to groups of different ages and backgrounds across Belfast, culminating in individual sculptures within communities and joint sculptures in public spaces that will be enjoyed by locals and visitors for generations to come.

In recent years, Belfast Wheel has also undertaken private commissions. Clients included: Belfast Community Circus, Children’s Law Centre, Belfast City Council and the Belfast Bell & Chime Choir.
