TRASH FASHION 2011

an eco friendly project that encourages participants to recycle, reuse and reinvent.

As new Belfast Community Arts Initiative celebrated its 10th anniversary, Trash Fashion decided on 'party wear' as a theme for this year’s Fashion project.
Participants work with a professionally trained designer to create their outfits
Through a series of workshops our participants were taught how to deconstruct, embellish, dye, customise and recycle old clothing and fabrics into unique colourful creations.

The projects culminated in March last year when we had our very own Belfast Fashion Week, where fashion shows and photo shoots were held in local community centres. The Grand Finale was a large professionally-staged fashion show in the Waterfront Hall where all the groups came together. All our excited participants confidently strutted down the catwalk showcasing their colourful designs.

Also displaying their skills on the night were Nubia South Belfast Eagles who treated the audience to a wonderful cheerleading performance.
The night ended with all our participants being presented with Trash Fashion certificates by programme director Conor Shields.
Family and friends all commented on how great it was to see all our young people coming together with a real feel-good factor on the night and were enthusiastically asking when our next show would be!
