Trash Fashion
New Belfast's Eco-Fashion project
Trash Fashion has been running since 2003 and has concentrated on providing workshops to a wide range of participants in fashion design using eco-friendly materials. These workshops have developed over the last few years and are highly sought after.
Trash Fashion is a fashion project which tackles environmental issues within the clothing industry. The innovative project encourages participants to slash, shred, stencil, embroider, embellish, print and dye, deconstructing and metamorphosing second hand clothing, to create a unique look. Groups can use this process as an opportunity to express their cultural background and personal identity.
Participants work with a professionally trained designer to create their outfits, and make their catwalk debut in front of family and friends. The project culminates as all the groups come together to showcase their work in a large professionally staged fashion show.
Workshops are suitable for participants of all ages. Accredited training in fashion – OCN Level 1 - is available to participants over 16 in a wide range of courses such as Fashion Design, Recycled Fashion and Craftwork. The accreditation is provided through WEA.
