Re-Imaging Communities
Real opportunities for real change:
Now in its seventh year of operations, New Belfast Community Arts Initiative has been providing artist-led, socially inclusive arts activity, serving the community and the most socially and economically marginalised. At this time, we wish to help communities get involved in the exciting area of Re-Imaging Communities.
New Belfast has been at the forefront of this re-imaging process since 2004 when we first piloted the concept of making-over murals in a unified programme of work. New Belfast has delivered 28 re-imaging murals over the last 2 years, replacing paramilitary images and sectarian graffiti with those supporting a Shared Future in Glencairn, Springhill, Monagh, Woodvale, Ardoyne, Donegall Road, The Village, Shankill, West Link, Grosvenor Road, New Lodge, Duncairn Gardens, Short Strand, the Markets, Lower Ormeau, and the Oldpark.
Now it's your chance to get involved:
We are proposing a series of consultations to see what potential artistic outcomes your community wishes to see in your area. If you have worked with us before, you know that you can count on good artistic support to make strong creative statements. Concentrating on public art and responding to the ethos of a Shared Future, New Belfast understands that communities wish to see a truer reflection of themselves within their own areas, not constantly addressing the negative, but showing positive images of real community spirit. Our main aim is to ensure that community need is being met by having consultation events, to hear about community ideas and issues and offer artistic solutions. We can help you carry out a high quality project but first we need you to signal your support for this idea. It will also be an opportunity for groups in your area to suggest alternative scenarios and potential groupings. Subject to funding and availability, we can arrange meetings and design consultations to ensure that communities get a real chance to take part in this major Re-Imaging Communities Programme.

Perhaps you would like to take the time to respond and we can work together to see real change come from real communities.
Many thanks -
